I collect classic movies (VHS for a few, mostly DVDs). Beowulf and Grendel caught my fancy because it is one of the legends I learned as a young child and also later in my literature subject in college. I seldom write movie reviews because I am so lazy to watch the films I bought, dumb me, I know. (Jane Eyre and Anna Karenina are still unopened) Worse , I often fall asleep while watching TV, that is why. The story of Beowulf is full of contrast - hatred and revenge against kindness and forgiveness; violence against the quest for peace; chivalry among society's outcasts against the rudeness of some of the supposedly gallant warriors.... Gerard Butler impressed me same way he did in the Phantom of the Opera. He is the best man to be Beowulf because of his Scottish nationality. It is easy for him - culture- and language-wise. And yeah talking about language, if there is one downside of the film, it is the heavy Celtic accent. You have to strain hard to understand some of the conversations. I'm just glad I am used to listening to my Scot friend Neil, I could pick up most lines. Albeit this, it is worth-watching!
what I have collected so far are: Gone With the Wind (including documentary) Schindler's List Annie (vhs) Mary Poppins (vhs) The Sound of Music (including documentary) Merchant of Venice Swiss Family Robinson Anna Karenina Jane Eyre (these last three are still unopened)
I want to get the following very soon: Pride and Prejudice Sense and Sensibility The Count of Monte Cristo The Scarlet Letter
